I am a musician who draws. I am interested in noticing what I notice. My sketches are archived at Picture this.

Daily drawings: I draw quick daily sketches as a means of staying attentive to the world around me.

Residency drawings: On tour or during a residency, I make more detailed daily drawings to document and reflect on the unfolding experience.

Gig drawings in the dark no glasses: I also use drawing as a way of listening when I attend gigs and performances. In this context, I am usually drawing in the dark or low light. I also take off my glasses so I am able to see the performer, but the mark making is blurry. This results in drawings that are loose, unexpected, sometimes wonderful, informed by sound and movement rather than by my thinking mind trying replicate what I see.

I teach these practices as stand alone workshops or as an interactive aspect of an artist talk or performance. I also make zines.

Here are some examples. You can find more images at Picture this accompanied by short reflections or annotations.
